Sam Javanrouh is my favorite contemporary photographer. In his latest blog post on Daily Dose of Imagery he offers fellow shutter bugs some advice on shooting people. The advice is accompanied by lots of great photos. Check it.

This is my nephew T. participating in an informal street hockey game that our family organized over the Christmas holidays.

I noticed when first examining the straight-out-of-the-camera version that the hockey net looked a lot like the sort that hockey players used decades ago. And T’s knitted cap also seemed appropriately retro. And so I decided to try the “Aged Effect” filter of my photo editing software. The picture above was the result.

A man walking on Memorial Drive in North Bay approaches the railroad tracks. This photo was taken on a windy, cool afternoon in late October. The weather was much colder in October than it currently is now.

Playing street hockey in The Beer Store parking lot. Very Canadian, eh!
